going for distance

Well, I did it today.  I ran for 7 minutes straight.  I know I know, wimpy by some standards.  But, it was easy and felt good.  The only reason that I really had to stop was that my shoe came untied.  Then I just couldn't capture that groove again.  So I did intervals the rest of the time. 
I managed 2 miles in 28 mins - including cool down.  Pretty good considering that the first mile was done by 11 mins. 

Tomorrow I will go running with Lesley AND hopefully bike ride with Kyle.  I am looking forward to it.

Music makes the Treadmill go round.

Treadmill work today - I was worried it would rain while I was outside, so I just went to Fitness Premier instead.  Bonus: I did weights. 

I took my sister's advice and used some music on the ipod for running last week and it was so great - I downloaded more songs and made a special playlist for today.  I find that OkGo's Here it goes again a great running song.  So great I looked up the BPM's and tried to find other songs that were the same.  My search let me to some music by the Killers, and Spoon.  I think that I will be looking into more songs today. I may solicit some suggestions from friends.

Working out is hard work

Working out is hard work, however, it's when the hard work becomes easy that we get the results we desire.  I have spent the last few days hiking, walking, doing yard chores and not enough time on running.  I know that they say that somewhere in between is where our lives happen, but for me, not running has left a small gap.  I filled that gap this morning, and despite my week of activity my body should have been running too.  I guess that I just felt slow and sluggish on the treadmill at the gym this morning.  I hope we can run outside tomorrow.

Did the bike this morning, I was in the mood for a little cross training. It wasn't as intense, I suppose that should have been expected, but still I didn't feel like I has done anything - just more tired later.
After the bike though we did lift, arms and upper body - I can't wait to feel that catch up with me in the form of that familiar muscle soreness!

On the Track

Well, Saturday we finally got all 4 of us girls to the track.  Ally ran a mile in 7 minutes, we were all very proud of her.  She just started running and didn't stop - it was great!  Les, Mom and I sufficiently pushed each other :)
After our runs and walks we all did squats for a few laps around the track, only Ally and Lesley were sore the next day.  The weather has been tempting us, just barely being warm enough to go outside - but unfortunately at the wrong times of the day for us.  It's still like 30 deg at 5am.  Soon, meanwhile happy running!

Spring

Well, I seem to be all healed from my strange tendon strain.  I also had to contend with an overwhelming desire to rest/sleep/etc.  So here I am, I worked out twice last week, but I don't feel like they were the quality work outs that I am striving for. 
Luckily spring is also here!  So, I was able to take 3 walks last week before the weather turned cold again.  The weather may be nice enough to start running outside now, I'll make sure that all the snow melts today from the weekend though before making my final judgement!
